Privacy Policy

What information Errata handles, why we use it, who may process it, and the choices you have.

Errata is operated by Mazin Sharaf (“Errata”, “we”, “us” or “our”).

This Privacy Policy explains what information Errata handles, why we use it, who may process it on our behalf, and the choices you have when using the service.

1. Information Errata handles

You can use Errata without creating an account.

When you use the service, we may handle:

Study materials you provide. This includes files you upload, such as PDFs, documents and images, together with text and other information extracted from those files.

Revision activity. We store information needed to run your workspace, including generated questions and answers, corrections you enter, your progress, results and related revision activity.

Subject and study settings. If you provide information such as your subject, level or revision preferences, we use it to tailor the exercises generated for you.

Guest and device information. Errata uses random identifiers to keep a guest workspace associated with your browser, protect access to it and apply usage limits.

Basic usage and performance information. We use privacy-focused analytics and performance tools to understand how the website is used, diagnose problems and improve speed and reliability. This can include information such as pages visited, browser or device information, approximate location derived from network information, and website performance measurements.

Our hosting providers may also process technical information such as IP addresses and request logs as part of delivering and protecting the website.

2. How we use information

We use information to:

  • provide and maintain your guest workspace;
  • process uploaded study materials;
  • generate revision questions and deliberate mistakes based on your material;
  • check corrections and provide feedback;
  • save your revision progress;
  • apply storage, question-generation and other usage limits;
  • prevent abuse and protect the security of Errata;
  • monitor reliability and performance;
  • troubleshoot errors and improve the service; and
  • comply with legal obligations where required.
  • We do not sell your personal information or uploaded study materials.
  • Errata does not currently use your information for targeted advertising.

3. AI processing

Errata uses artificial intelligence to process study materials, generate exercises and assess certain corrections.

To provide these features, relevant parts of your uploaded material, your study settings and, where necessary, corrections you submit may be sent to an AI service provider. Errata currently uses OpenAI for these functions.

Only upload material that you are comfortable having processed for these purposes.

You should avoid uploading unnecessary personal information, confidential information, highly sensitive information, or information about another person unless you are authorised to do so.

4. Hosting, analytics and service providers

Errata relies on trusted service providers to operate the website.

These currently include Vercel, which provides hosting, website analytics and performance monitoring, and OpenAI, which provides AI processing.

Other infrastructure providers may be used to securely store and deliver the information needed to operate Errata.

These providers may process information on our behalf according to their agreements with us and their applicable privacy and security obligations.

5. Cookies and browser storage

Errata uses essential browser storage so the service can function without requiring an account.

Essential guest and device cookies may remain in your browser for up to 30 days. They are used to recognise your guest workspace, protect access to it and apply usage limits. They are not used by Errata for advertising.

Errata may also store preferences on your device, such as appearance, font size, explanation preferences and your most recently used revision session.

Removing cookies or browser storage may cause you to lose access to settings or a guest workspace.

6. How long information is kept

Workspace information may remain available until you delete it, clear your workspace, or it is otherwise removed as part of operating the service.

You can permanently delete an individual uploaded file from Errata. Doing so removes the file and the revision material that depends on that file from the active workspace.

You can also use Clear workspace in guest settings. This permanently removes the workspace's uploaded files, revision sessions, generated questions, answers and revision history.

Clearing a workspace does not reset usage limits. Limited technical records connected with usage limits, security and abuse prevention may therefore be retained separately after workspace content has been cleared.

Some limited information may also need to be retained where reasonably necessary for security, legal compliance, resolving disputes or protecting the service.

7. Security

We use reasonable technical and organisational measures designed to protect the information processed through Errata.

Guest workspaces use protected browser credentials, uploaded files are not intentionally made public, and access to workspace information is restricted to the appropriate guest session.

However, no online service can guarantee absolute security. You should not use Errata as the only place where you keep important study materials.

8. Your choices

You can control much of your information directly within Errata.

Depending on where you live, you may also have legal rights relating to personal information, such as rights to access, correct, delete, restrict or object to certain processing.

Because Errata does not require an account, we may need enough information to reasonably verify that a privacy request relates to you before acting on it.

To make a privacy request, contact help@errata.study.

  • delete individual uploaded files;
  • clear the contents of your guest workspace;
  • change locally stored preferences;
  • clear Errata’s cookies and browser storage through your browser; and
  • stop using the service at any time.

9. Young users

Errata is designed as an educational service and may be used by students.

If the law where you live requires permission from a parent or guardian before you can use an online service or provide personal information, you should use Errata only with that permission.

Do not upload another person’s private or sensitive information unless you have permission to do so.

10. International processing

Errata uses online service providers that may process information in countries other than the country where you live.

Where required by applicable law, appropriate safeguards will be used for international transfers of personal information.

11. Third-party material

Study materials you upload may belong to teachers, schools, publishers or other copyright owners.

You are responsible for making sure you have the right to upload and process material through Errata.

12. Changes to this Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as Errata changes.

If we make material changes to how personal information is handled, we will update this page and change the effective date above.
